Topical Application, Body’s Alkalinity & Effects

Topical Application Of Mangosteen Juice

We have been using mangosteen juice salve for almost four years. My husband took 20 skin tags off his neck. I took a big thing off my shoulder…I have used it on cuts, scrapes, burns, spider-bites, stings, baby shots and the cat, too!

If you’re in an emergency and there isn’t time to make a paste for topical application, e.g. with a burn, you can apply mangosteen directly or soak a cloth with the juice and wrap the wounded area with it.

If you have the time to reduce it slowly, pour a small amount of the juice in a flat plate, the larger surface area, the better & cover (preferably with glass) to keep out foreign objects. Then let the juice evaporate over several days until it forms a paste

If you wish to reduce the juice on the stove, that’s fine, too because xanthones don’t lose their bioactivity when heated. I’ve done this and can attest that the paste is very effective

How To Use Mangosteen Juice Paste

Whichever reduction method you use, what’s eventually left, is a mangosteen paste e.g. the consistency of honey, which you then scrape off and store in a covered container in your fridge.

If you’ve only made a little, store it in a small container, like a sterilized thimble…and place that in a sealed bottle in your fridge.

There are two ways to use the paste:

1. Directly- Clean the relevant patch of skin, and apply the paste. Try to cover the treated skin lightly to keep the paste from rubbing off, but still allow the air to get in. Keep it dry and repeat a few hours later, if possible, then repeat for the next few days if necessary
2. Creating a cream – When you need it, mix the paste with some hand cream and apply it to the wound or skin irritation. We’ve found this method to be more efficient, because the mixture soaks into the skin, none of the paste flakes off and best of all, less paste is used

“…The mangosteen paste is incredible and works like magic. I used it on an elderly client’s hand. She had broken the little finger on her left hand and was out of the cast but still could not sleep due to intense pain. It radiated up her ‘pinkie’ finger over and across the top of her hand. [Mangosteen juice] paste to the rescue!!

I had been continually swabbing the area with a Q-tip for probably 10 minutes when Beverly said:

“The pain is gone!”

I lightly wrapped her hand with a bandage so the paste wouldn’t stain her clothing. She did the application for the next couple of days and she hasn’t been bothered since!

We’ve used it on:

burns (no blisters)
moles
warts
eczema
dry skin patches etc…”

Making Hand Lotion For Sensitive Skin

Use your favorite hand/body lotion mixed with the mangosteen juice paste …and you have the BEST hand or body lotion!!

I strain the juice first before I let it evaporate…because if you don’t, you have so much of the residue that it could be bothersome for some people who have sensitive skin. This way, when you strain* it, you have mostly all juice.

I got this idea from the book 65 Ways To Use Mangosteen Juice by Isa Navarre – check this out and read more do-it-yourself ideas on our juice.

*Straining the juice beforehand should be a last resort, simply because the residue contains the most xanthones and it’s the most important part of the juice.

The Body’s Alkalinity

This is a page that we shall be developing in the future but for now, we’d just like to present this video, which provides a fairly good introduction to the subject. Dr. Robert Young talks about the connection between disease and the body’s alkalinity, in particular, how eating the wrong foods can create an acidic condition where disease can thrive.

Acid-producing foods include this mind-boggling list:

meat
eggs
legumes & beans
white flour products such as bread, crackers etc.
grains & milled grains, such as barley, oats etc.
sugar & sugared products
artificial sweeteners
coffee
soft drinks
aspirins
many pharmaceutical drugs
pesticides
herbicides
tobacco
alcohol / beer
some fruit such as blueberries, cranberries, plums etc.

Alkaline-producing foods:

all fresh (preferably organic) vegetables, especially greens, lemons & watermelons
most other fresh fruit
tofu

Dr. Robert Young & his wife, chef Shelley Long

We make no comment on the study of body alkalinity and disease other than to say that there appears to be a great deal of merit in studying it and much to gain from implementing some or all of the Youngs’ ideas.

However, their solution does require a fairly thorough turnaround of most people’s diets and because of the huge range of acidic foods and the addictive qualities of fats, salts and sugars, we feel that unfortunately, few people will heed the alkaline foods message.

Mangosteen juice, though, usually needs no change of diet and seems to get fantastic results anyway. We believe that the two systems of body alkalinity and mangosteen juice work synergistically but if we had to choose one, it would always initially be mangosteen juice, simply because it gets great results more easily.

Side Effects

There’s no doubt that when some people start taking mangosteen juice, a small percentage of people do experience some minor side effects.

Why is that?

Well, while we’re unsure of the Science, mangosteen juice users frequently talk of the juice quickly cleaning out toxins. They say that, unfortunately, those toxins – the result of years of living the wrong way – subsequently (temporarily) poison your bloodstream, resulting in a number of reasonably common symptoms, such as:

mild headaches
irritability
can’t sleep / too sleepy
mild body aches etc.

We have found that if you drink about a liter of water a day for the first few days, sometimes weeks, when you start taking mangosteen juice, that you can minimize these effects.

If you can combine that with a bit of mild exercise (e.g. walking half a mile a day – not briskly but certainly more than a saunter, if possible!), then our experience has been that you should have virtually no problems.

In our small group, while most had no debilitating side effects, one of us:

suffered two separate days of Depression, several weeks apart (particularly noticeable because the person wasn’t prone to Depression) &
strong lethargy, again on two separate days several weeks apart

In both cases they had not maintained drinking the recommended amounts of water. Becoming aware that they were probably poisoned with toxins, they resumed their water regimen but, interestingly, that only seemed to reduce their discomfort by about 50%.

N.B.: Doing so may well have reduced the toxin O.D. to just the single day – which is how long it lasted on all four occasions, over the space of their first month on mangosteen juice.

Our empirical evidence suggests that these toxin O.D. episodes don’t usually occur if you monitor the amount of water that you’re drinking and keep to your schedule.

However, there are some people with chronic conditions who find that their conditions worsen temporarily for a week or so and then quickly start to improve.

Others with chronic diseases of many years may have a detox that lasts considerably longer, sometimes even a few months – though we have never come across either of those scenarios, ourselves.

In either case, drinking the recommended amount of water and performing some mild exercise should minimize these problems.

When compared to the documented adverse reactions that many people have to prescribed drugs, we believe that these symptoms are very minor and have found them to be temporary and usually easily stopped.

In our eyes:

mangosteen juice +
water +
mild exercise
is very safe.
However, if you’re on any prescribed medication, please – as we’ve stated elsewhere on this blog - only take mangosteen juice under the care of a sympathetic, qualified medical practitioner.

With mangosteen juice, your may find that your body may quickly discover that it doesn’t need the same strength prescription drugs – you may even find it does not need them at all – and to continue taking these drugs may SUDDENLY become dangerous for you. Please monitor this situation very closely, especially with drugs for Blood Pressure, Depression, Asthma, Kidneys, Heart etc.

Gastro-intestinal Problems

Although we aren’t aware of any folks with gastro-intestinal problems who had problems taking mangosteen juice and none of the testimonials seem to mention any problems (other than diarrhea) either – we still recommend caution.

We suggest that if you have ANY stomach or GI tract problems, – and we don’t mean to patronize – to slowly build up to the maintenance order of mangosteen juice over SEVERAL days and carefully monitor what’s happening within your body.

On one hand, it’s excellent advice to drink the liter of water a day for the reasons stated above but on the other, the direct and undiluted contact of the juice on the stomach lining MAY be extremely beneficial for you.

Consequently we would advise that when you’re entirely sure that your GI tract is coping with diluted mangosteen juice, then splitting your mangosteen day and try to have the juice at the times when you don’t have the water. If that works, everything should be Hunky Dory!
